TELLING KIDS WITH CANCER THEY ARE AWESOME
  • Home

Our Tshirts are designed and printed by hand in Australia by an Oncology Parent, Kirsten. Just before the diagnosis of her daughter she had planned to launch a bespoke  T-shirt business. Her little family put everything on hold while they rushed to Brisbane to save their daughters life, scuppering any T-Shirt empire building plans. Her daughter is still being treated for leukaemia but in the true BRAVE spirit of this tribe of ours she has dusted herself off, said 'Is that all you've got?' and is launching a different kind of bespoke range. I heart all over these bravery shirts. This really is what BRAVE looks like.

The Beautiful Mess - A Raffle Ticket

A$50.00

Donated by Canary Lane ‘The Beautiful Mess’, tells the story of the beautiful mess of emotions of a family with childhood cancer. Funds raised will support the work of The Bravery Box.

Valued at $3775.00, you are buying a raffle ticket (only 100 tickets available). In the comments please write the name of the Oncology Mother to whom you would like to gift The Beautiful Mess should your ticket win.

The Raffle will be drawn at Brews, Bites & Beats on Saturday 7th September or when the 100 tickets have sold.

A word about the design decisions:

The seemingly random placement of stones tells a story of the common ‘plot twists’ when an illness or infection or complication sends us off-balance.

The designer chose different sizes and different shaped stones as the mosaic of emotions and challenges that a child with cancer experiences.

When you look from the outside in, towards a family with childhood cancer, things are often not what they seem. Many families are faking courage and happiness on the days that feel impossible. Some mother cry in the shower to hide their pain and reappear with hugs and kisses and laughter. The pink pear-shaped stone is also not what it seems – it looks like a pink sapphire, tucked in next to other pink sapphires but is in fact an pink tourmaline.

The Watermelon tourmaline positioned just off to the side represents the love and support of families who deeply understand your pain because they too have battled childhood cancer.

Battling for your child’s life, gratefully is rare.  Pink diamonds are rare and precious. The designer used pink diamonds to describe the incredible heights of connection and happiness that can be found in battling for your child’s life.

The Beautiful Mess is part of a series inspired last year when the designer watched the friendship between two girls battling the same cancer and in turn watched as one girl learned how to grieve the loss of the other. The large yellow sapphire represents the enduring friendships of all children who battle cancer together and those who are no longer with us.

This designer from Canary Lane has a rare and touching insight into the lives of a family battling cancer. Thank you for making our battle so beautiful through your artwork.

Gift for an Oncology Mum or Dad at Lady Cilento Children's Hospital

A$44.00
You are buying a gift of this shirt for a Mum or Dad who has a child undergoing cancer treatment at Lady Cilento Children's Hospital. The shirt will be printed upon order and delivered directly to the outpatient or inpatient wards.

To be an oncology parent is to lend your own bravery to your child and to be strong enough to watch your child at their worst. Not all days are like that but all days require a type of bravery I personally didn't know existed until my own child's diagnosis. Being the parent of a child with cancer requires the bravery of accepting that your child will be in pain, they will be socially isolated and that their lives are no longer 'safe' in the way they once were. It's an extraordinary shift in a parent's heart.

To the parent you may never meet, thank you for this gift. They may wear it on days when their child or family need to feel connected and supported by their community or when they need to discuss bravery with their child.

If you have a particular family you'd like to buy this shirt for please mention the child's name and diagnosis (if you know it and so we can find them) and the parent's name (and size) in the comments of the shopping cart.

A cash donation... because I am awesome

A$20.00 - A$1,000.00
What do we spend our cash donations on? Lots of things.

Donations are most often used to develop new products or programs for the children and teens at Lady Cilento undergoing treatment for cancer.

Our Tshirts and Bravery Bands are often made in bulk and delivered for free to our outpatients and inpatients. We often use funds to bolster stock of items that are not often donated but are awesome for kids and teens on treatment to receive, like iTunes vouchers, teen fiction, play doh (can't tell you why that's not often donated, but kids LOVE it, fun for all ages), really awesome water bottles and other things that are so very politely requested.
