SUNDAY 11th March- Date change

Picture
Bravery Box is hosting the 2018 swimming carnival meet for Little Big Swim and All About Aquatics, Everton Park - (guest swimmers also welcome) at Everton Park State School pool.

Standing up on the dive block takes a whole lot of BRAVE and we want to celebrate our swimmer's hard work this season.

Carnival is the key word here.
Games, Sausage Sizzles, Bake Sales, Dive workshops, Underwater Photography,
Races for Aged 4 to Squad level, Our World Famous Pool Pony Race (for parents and coaches).
For the entertainment of all races between our coaches from AAA and LBSS and parents.

All proceeds from the day go towards the work of the BRAVERY BOX for kids with cancer. Our project collects donations from the public of toys, gifts and other items to reward and incentivise the bravery of the children and teens undergoing treatment for cancer at Lady Cilento Children's Hospital. The carnival will also be a drop off point for donations if you are all the colours of awesome and would like to make a donation.

Event Details and RSVP form
Date: Sunday 11th March (please note date change)
Starting Time: 12 noon
Location: Everton Park School swimming pool (entrance on corner of Barton and Lyne Street)
Order of events:
12-1.30pm - Dive workshops and Underwater photography
1.30pm - Across the pool races
2pm - 25m races
3pm - 50m races
3.30pm - Coach Races and Parents Races, Adult Pool Pony Race

Cost: The cost of the event is a donation to the Bravery Box. A suggested donation is $5 per swimmer. The event will also be a drop off point for toys, games, books and other rewards for the Bravery Box to distribute to kids with cancer (please see below or the link above for the work we do). Please note: because so many of the children with cancer have compromised immunity we can only accept new donations, we ever so politely decline second hand.

We wouldn't miss it for the WORLD RSVP.

Below you can fill in your swimmer's name and distance. Swimmers can decide on they how many events in that distance they are going to participate in on the day (stops swimmers worrying about their choice beforehand and often swimmers will choose to do more on the day when we follow this format).  If in doubt, ask your coach which distance would work best.

Across the pool - Children who are learning stroke, not yet really comfortable with breathing, might still put their feet down when swimming.  Events will be noodle race, kickboard race and freestyle.
25m Swimmer's may have to dig deep to get to the end but if you or your coach think your swimmer can manage 25m its always AWESOME to see them be brave and step up onto the blocks for the first time. Events will be Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke and Butterfly
50m Intermediate Squad, Junior of Senior Squads. Events will be Individual Medley, Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke and Butterfly

A little something about the Bravery Box - Cancer treatment is often painful and confronting - when a child with cancer at Lady Cilento Children's Hospital braves up for a procedure they dip into the Bravery Box as a reward; rewards in the form of toys, games, iTunes vouchers and other 'well dones' donated by the public.

The Swimming Carnival will be a drop off point for donations and all proceeds from the carnival will be donated to The Bravery Box. You could make a donation yourself or be all the colours of awesome and get your friends and family to contribute as well bringing a stash of rewards for kids going toe to toe with painful procedures.

Great donations are toys, unique water bottles, young adult fiction, books, colouring in books, craft sets, lego, play doh, iTunes vouchers (our teens LOVE these), anything smiggle or spencil, nail polish, lip gloss. Think of what your child would like to be distracted during a long wait or a painful procedure and you'll be bang on.

We will go ahead with the swimming carnival today unless there’s serious changes in the weather. A little rain never scared away swimmers 😉. Life hack: bring several towels so your swimmer always has a dry one. Bring their dressing gown to pop over their togs after they’ve dried off between swims and they’ll keep warm.

    Choose Brave

Bravery doesn't just happen. Brave is a choice that you make when you are scared to put that fear aside and carry on.
